Cake of the Day: "Just A Cake"
For my Saturday cake, one of my good friends (who is also an excellent baker) invited me over to her house to make a cake with her for a party she was having that night. She found this amazing looking recipe:
Just A Cake (if you looked at the link, be warned, ours did not end up looking quite that nice). It was really my first time making buttercream frosting, so that was a good experience, and it's always fun baking with a friend :)

Yes, I did get laughed at for how precise I am when baking |
And since pictures are excellent, there will be many in this post. Doesn't this one look great?

Mini chocolate chips were mixed into the buttercream in the middle . . . so yummy, and it looks like a giant Oreo |
We were running a little short on time as we had to meet up with others for the party (we went bowling) so the cake actually got it's crumb coat out in the garage (on the back of her husband's car) to keep the cake and frosting cool. The buttercream in the middle kept wanting to run out, but we contained it.

And now, for the ganache on top. She did such a nice job making it (even though she was a little nervous about it). You really can't go wrong with pouring chocolate over a cake though.

The moment of truth |
Unfortunately, since we were running so late, we didn't have enough time to let the ganache cool either, and it was much runnier than we had hoped and quite a bit formed a moat around the cake. So, not as pretty as the Bakerella version, but still super tasty (you really can't go wrong with a recipe that includes four sticks of butter).
